The film critic, essayist, poet and novelist, Phillip Lopate was interviewed by Herpreet Grewal and Abigail Drachman-Jones, as a part of Columbia Journalism School’s Arts and Culture interview series with artists in various fields in 2010. Lopate is the author of 11 books and the editor of four anthologies, including The Art of the Personal Essay. His work has appeared in such publications as the New York Times, Best American Essays, The Paris Review, Harper’s, Vogue, Esquire and Film Quarterly. A recipient of Guggenheim and National Endowment for the Arts fellowships, he lives in Brooklyn New York, and is a teacher in both Columbia’s School of the Arts and the Journalism School.
