A troubled New Deal for Communities programme in Nottingham is undergoing an independent review by a government-appointed adviser because of concerns over how it is run, it emerged this week.
The Department for Communities and Local Government has sponsored a neighbourhood renewal adviser to lead a review into the Radford and Hyson NDC programme managed by development trust Neighbourhood Development Company. The review relates to “corporate governance” at the NDC, according to the Government Office for the East Midlands (GOEM).
GOEM is supporting the review along with Nottingham City Council. The review is taking place following a number of concerns about the NDC’s governance over the last few months.
Earlier this month the vice-chair of the NDC’s board, Bhagwant Tiwana, walked out of its annual general meeting due to “concern about its governance arrangements”. NDC board treasurer Yohanna Yaro is also currently suspended after he was arrested in November in relation to fraud offences (R&R, 25 January, p8).
The review is separate from the investigation by external solicitors being carried out into the suspension of the chief executive of the programme, Sam Tarff (R&R, 4 January, p1).
